AHMEDABAD: On behalf of HH Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan, HG Pullikkottil Dr Geevarghese Yulios, Metropolitan, Ahmedabad Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC), has extended the Church’s heartfelt condolences to Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria in general and to all the family members of the victims in particular.
The Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church strongly condemns the vicious attacks on innocent worshippers in St George (Mar Girgis) Coptic church in Tanta and in front of St Mark’s church in Alexandria, Egypt.
The condolence message further states: “We stay with you in prayers at this juncture. Christians understand that being killed is an honour for them and the growth of Coptic Orthodoxy is the exemplary model to this reality: the more you are being killed, the more we grow; thanking Him for everything we receive.”
At least 44 people were killed and more than 70 were wounded by an explosion at a Coptic Christian church in northern Egypt during a service to celebrate Palm Sunday, state television reported.
Several hours after the bombing in Tanta, another explosion hit in front of St Mark’s church in Alexandria, killing at least 17 people and injuring more than 48, the health ministry said.

The Catholicos and the Orthodox Diocese of Ahmedabad (ODA) under Metropolitan Mar Yulios have expressed profound sorrow and offered condolences and prayers for the families of the victims, for the wounded and for all the people of Egypt.
